As the Varsity Head Coach of Unity Reed High School’s girls’ basketball team, James Watson focuses on player growth and development and building a successful program. With over 20 years of coaching experience under his belt, Coach Watson firmly believes that preparation, determination, and hard work are the keys to success on and off the court.

Coach Watson's coaching experience spans across various levels, including 7 years coaching high school basketball, 12 years coaching girls and boys AAU teams, and 15 years coaching in the Fairfax County Youth League (FCYBL). His hard work and dedication paid off when his AAU Girls 13U basketball team finished 11th in Nationals (D2), and his AAU Boys 13U Team finished 4th in Nationals (D3).

In addition to his impressive coaching career, Coach Watson has helped pave the way for his players' future success. More than 10 former players from his girls' teams have played at the collegiate level, with schools such as UConn, Georgetown, Longwood, Mary Washington, Eastern Mennonite, Emory, and Randolph College. Furthermore, a staggering 90% of County Youth League players have gone on to play high school ball.

It's clear that Coach Watson's dedication and hard work has paid off, not only in the form of victories on the court, but in the success of his players beyond high school. With his winning mentality and focus on player growth, there's no doubt that Coach Watson will continue to inspire and lead his players to great heights.
